With the right plant, decent lighting, a suitable substrate, and a little patience, you can build a healthy carpet without adding injected CO2. Start With the Right Plant Choosing the right grass makes the process much easier. Dwarf hairgrass is a popular choice for carpeting because its narrow leaves can spread across the foreground and create a short, grassy appearance.
